My wife and I were sitting in our den the evening after Christmas, our Christmas display and lights on out front for the final few days before the end of the season. There was a knock at our door and I looked out to see a gentleman I recognized but did not know by name. I opened the door and said hello. He thanked us for our Christmas display and lights and said how much it meant to him, his family and the Westchester community. He handed us a box of sweets and before I could think of what to say to thank him, he turned, and as he walked away he wished us a blessed new year.
We have lived here for 14 years, coming from the Bay Area, where this would never happen, and that is why we cherish living in Bakersfield. May he and his and all the people of this blessed city have a joyous season and blessed 2013.
