Random thought I had while doing my quarterly recycling run: California inflicts a tax on those of us who drink bottled water and juice. We get charged an extra nickel for every half-liter bottle, more for bigger bottles, in order to almost literally force us to recycle. What other state does this?
We're supposed to get this nickel back when we recycle, but recyclers don't pay by the bottle. They pay by the pound. So what happens when bottled-water companies make their bottles lighter, using less plastic to save the environment? We still lose when we recycle. So drink more soda! Oh, wait, that's being taxed extra now, too, because we're getting fat. Thanks, Democrats! I never liked freedom anyway.
