Regarding the Nov. 8 letter "Bakersfield, Kern as red as ever": The writer, a longtime contributor to the Opinion section, is still here trying to make this "red county" change our minds or make us see his way. Here's the deal: We haven't and we won't, so if he's really tired of Kern consistently voting the same way, then I'm afraid he will have a long wait.
Yes, we are different, and proud of it. My big family and I are not going to drink the "Kool-Aid" like others do in this state. I do hope things are good for the writer and his family. I hope they have the money to pay the higher sales tax and the other higher taxes that are coming from the state's new Democratic supermajority. The spending will just go on until the whole state finally goes bankrupt.
Until California gets some kind of common sense back, I think I'm doing just fine, thank you very much! I don't get swayed by the cry of "More taxes, more taxes, 'cause the sky is falling!" I pray that the spending liberals who got us into this mess can get us out. I'm not counting on it -- I'm just hoping the Kool-Aid is magic!
