2014 BVarsity Boys Track and Field All-Area Team

Athlete of the Year

Blake Haney

Stockdale * senior

Oregon signee and three-time Athlete of the Year added a third state title, this one his second 1,600-meter championship, and went undefeated in almost everything else, including an unprecendented triple championship in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 at the Central Section Championships.

First team

Isaac Clark

Independence * senior

Clark had the section's second-fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth-fastest in the 300 hurdles. He was the Southwest Yosemite League 110 hurdles champion (wind-aided 14.53) and also qualified for state in the event with a third-place section finish.

Herman Day

Ridgeview * senior

The area's most consistent high-jumper, Day cleared 6-foot-6 early in the season and then came on strong late, jumping 6-5 to finish third in the section and reach the state meet. Day also was second in the South Area meet and the South Yosemite League champion.

Colton Foster

Frontier * senior

For the second straight year, Foster earned a state medal in a throwing event. This time it was the discus, where he threw 179-9 to finish fifth in the state. He also won a section title and reached the state finals in the shot put, where his best mark was 59 feet.

Gabriel Gaeta

Frontier * senior

The league, area and section champion in the 300 hurdles (best time 38.37) and also a state qualifier in the 110 hurdles (windy 14.58), Gaeta was a key member of the Titans' SWYL championship team.

Anthony Mariscal

Liberty * junior

Mariscal was the most consistent sprinter in the area. He was the SWYL champion in the 100 (windy 10.85) and 200 (22.36). Mariscal also advanced to the Central Section meet in both events.

Scotty Newton

Bakersfield * senior

The TCU-bound jumper saved the best for last in his high school career, jumping a personal-record 49-8.75 to place third in the state in the triple jump. It was his third state medal. He also won the area in the long jump and triple jump and was second in the section in the triple jump.

Mason Rollins

Mira Monte * senior

Rollins exploded onto the local sprinting scene with four personal bests in the final month of the season, including an area sweep in the 100 (windy 10.76) and 200 (22.08). He finished fourth in the section in the 200 at one of those PRs, 21.92.

Isaac Trevino

Centennial * junior

Trevino's personal best in his signature event, the 800 meters, dropped by more than eight seconds during the year. The best came with a 1:52.10 in the state finals, good for fifth place and a surprise state medal. Trevino was second in the SWYL and area to Blake Haney and third in the section.
