The Bakersfield Condors sent qualifying offers to seven players, thereby securing their ECHL rights for the 2014-15 campaign.
All of the players receiving qualifying offers were forwards -- Spencer Bennett, Joel Broda, Ryan Little, Nick MacNeil, Gary Steffes, Matt Thurber and Ryan Watson.
Players who had already signed a contract by June 30 did not need to sign a qualifying offer, and those who played for the Condors but were on an NHL or AHL contract were not eligible to receive an offer.
The qualifying offer must remain open for acceptance until Aug. 1, at which time the qualifying offer becomes null and void and the team may sign the qualified player to any salary, or may elect to take no further action.
Teams that extend a valid qualifying offer to a non-veteran player shall retain the rights to that qualified player for one playing season.
The Condors did not extend qualifying offers to any veterans, who become unrestricted free agents on Aug. 1, even if they were extended an offer.
CSUB scholarship fund
Cal State Bakersfield's Roadrunner Scholarship Fund reached its goal of $600,000 for the year-long fundraising drive that ended Monday, CSUB spokesman Corey Costelloe said.
The previous high was $553,000 raised last year.
The goal was reached after a frantic final two weeks of the fund drive.
On June 18, a CSUB news release said just over $487,000 had been raised to that point.
