USC junior Alex Collatz, a Stockdale graduate, won the discus title at the Pac-12 Conference Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Eugene, Ore.

Collatz used a throw of 184 feet, 3 inches on her final attempt to win her first conference title. She broke the three-year reign of Shafter graduate Anna Jelmini of Arizona State; Jelmini finished fifth at 178-6.

Jelmini, who also finished third in the shot put in 52-0.5, is the defending national champion in the discus, while Collatz finished fifth in the nation a year ago. They both advance to the NCAA West Regionals on May 29-31 in Fayetteville, Ark. The NCAA Championships are June 11-14 back in Eugene.

Tehachapi coach home from hospital

Tehachapi baseball coach Chris Olofson was released from the hospital and is resting at home, Tehachapi athletic director Pat Snyder said Monday.

A line-drive foul ball struck Olofson in the head while he was coaching third base during Tehachapi's first-round Central Section Division III playoff game last Tuesday against Highland.

He suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. He spent several nights at Kern Medical Center.

Tehachapi, the No. 5 seed in Division III, beat Highland and then went on the road to defeat No. 4 Fresno-Hoover on Thursday.

The Warriors return for a surprise home semifinal at 4:30 p.m. today against No. 9 seed Visalia-Golden West, which beat No. 1 Ridgeview in the quarterfinals.
