Tehachapi High baseball coach Chris Olofson has been upgraded to serious condition and his recovery is "looking positive for a full recovery," according to a Thursday statement from the Tehachapi Unified School District.
Olofson was struck in the head by a line-drive foul ball as he was coaching third base during Tehachapi's first-round Central Section Division III playoff game at home Tuesday against Highland.
He was briefly unconscious, driven to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield and diagnosed with a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain.
"He is improving; he is more coherent," said the statement from Tehachapi Superintendent Lisa Gilbert. "He is sleeping most of the time, but he is answering questions quickly. They are checking him hourly and working on keeping the swelling down in his brain. They want him to continue to rest.
"It is looking very positive for a full recovery."
