Bakersfield Police released this photo of their investigation into residential burglaries. Officers responded to a suspicious circumstances call at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 10900 block of Rockridge Way.

A mail carrier who heard an alarm and saw two men run from a residence to a car was able to get a license plate number and description of the vehicle, information that helped police make an arrest.

Melanie Martinez, 22, of Lamont, Glenn Sagan, 18, of Bakersfield and a juvenile are suspected of committing several burglaries in the Bakersfield area. An investigation is ongoing.

Officers responded to the 400 block of Vista Verde Way in west Bakersfield at 10:22 a.m. Tuesday regarding a residential burglary. Police said a mail carrier saw two Hispanic males run from a house and entered a light-colored sedan that sped off.

Police found the front door of the residence had been kicked in, but not property was taken.

At 11:50 a.m., officers responded to the 10900 block of Rockridge Way -- west of Vista Verde -- for a report of two Hispanic males getting out of a white sedan, looking into the garage windows of a residence and then entering its back yard. Police found the sedan parked by a residence and Martinez sitting in the driver's seat talking on a cellphone.

The license plate and description of the vehicle matched what the mail carrier had provided, police said.

A juvenile jumped the fence from the back yard and ran toward the suspect vehicle, police said. Both he and Martinez were taken into custody.

Police said Sagan jumped several fences as he tried to get away, but he was arrested soon after.
