Basic Needs Foundation Inc. will hold a spay/neuter mobile clinic in the Lake Isabella area on June 7 for low-income residents.

Residents must sign up ahead of time. There are 49 slots.

Interested persons can go online to fill out an application at Or they can sign up through the Lake Isabella Shelter, whose phone number is 760-378-1131 and address is 14891 Highway 178, Lake Isabella, 93240. Or they can pick up a form at Junk and Disorderly shop in town, 5121 Lake Isabella, #B, Lake Isabella, CA 93240.

The clinic is only open to residents of the Kern River Valley who earn $35,000 or less annually or are on some type of government subsidy. Proof is required.

This clinic is for large breed dogs only. Puppies must be at least 8 weeks old and be a large breed such as pit bull, shepherd, husky, etc.

There is a $35 co-pay or whatever the dog's owner can afford. There's a limit of two dogs per family.

Basic Needs has held several mobile spay/neuter clinics in the Lake Isabella area since 2011 and has altered more than 600 pets.

The foundation still needs help with funding for the June event and a planned July event for the Ridgecrest area.
