The Kern County Sheriff's Office works on completing an officer-involved shooting incident investigation in Oildale on Beardsley Avenue the morning of March 27. The shooting happened late March 26.

A Kern County Sheriff's Office Incident Review Board determined Friday the two deputies involved in the March 26 shooting of a man in Oildale were within the bounds of their authority when they killed Christopher McDaniel.

The review board said the use of deadly force by deputies Aaron Warmerdam and Jeffrey Kelley was within department policy, according to a news release.

The incident began when McDaniel, of Bakersfield, allegedly fled law enforcement on a motorcycle. He later crashed, and, deputies said, pointed a handgun at Warmerdam's face.

Warmerdam and Kelley fired three rounds each at McDaniel, 41. A spent cartridge from McDaniel's weapon led law enforcement to believe he fired at least once.

A police K-9, Luke, was also shot during the altercation but survived.

The review board consisted of chief deputies Francis Moore, Kevin Zimmermann, Brian Wheeler and Shelly Castaneda.
