Nordstrom Inc. announced Tuesday it plans to open a 35,000-square-foot Nordstrom Rack next spring at The Shops at River Walk.
In a news release issued jointly with the Seattle-based retail chain, real estate developer Castle & Cooke Inc. also confirmed Sprouts Farmers Market and T.J. Maxx as tenants at the 48-acre project on Stockdale Highway west of Calloway Drive.
All three retailers had been mentioned publicly as having plans to open new stores in Bakersfield, but until Tuesday no such plans had been confirmed by either the chains or the developer.
T.J. Maxx has a store in Bakersfield, but Nordstrom Rack and Sprouts do not. The release provided no further information about T.J. Maxx or Sprouts.
The Rack, as the chain is sometimes known, is Nordstrom's off-price store brand. It sells clothing, accessories and shoes at discounts of 30 percent to 70 percent off regular prices.
"This additional location will make it more convenient for customers who have been driving over 100 miles to shop with us," Nordstrom Rack President Geevy Thomas said in the news release.
The Shops at River Walk is a mixed-use development just south of the Westside Parkway. Its current tenants include Target, Aveda, P.F. Chang's, California Pizza Kitchen, BJ's Restaurant & Brewery and Eureka! Burger.
