Bakersfield-based Arsenal Equipment Rentals has moved into a new building at 34921 Petrol Road that, at 11,000 square feet, is four times the size of its previous headquarters.

Founded in 2008, the company said its workforce has nearly doubled in the past two years.

Arsenal serves more than 1,000 customers, including companies in oil and energy, construction, agriculture and manufacturing.

Sleep Train has opened its second store in Bakersfield at 2100 Panama Lane.

Wednesday's opening in the Lowe's and Wal-Mart shopping center follows the company's local debut last year at 3216 Ming Ave. The chain has more than 100 stores statewide.

The new store's hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Wells Fargo & Co. said it gave $394,150 to 79 Kern County schools and nonprofits last year , and that its employees volunteered a total of 1,359 hours.

Among the recipients were the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Community Action Partnership of Kern, Latina Leaders of Kern County and Bethany Services Inc.

Nationwide, the San Francisco-based bank gave $275.5 million to 18,500 nonprofits in 2013, and its employees contributed more than $89 million and 1.7 million volunteer hours.

Chevron has donated $50,000 to Court Appointed Special Advocates.

CASA said it plans to use the money to recruit, screen, train and supervise volunteers to speak on behalf of abused and abandoned children in the foster care system.

The Rotary Club of Bakersfield has given out 10 grants totaling more than $40,000 to nonprofits with local operations.

Awarded through Waterman Foundation grants, the contributions went to the Boys & Girls Club of Kern County ($10,000), Garden Pathways ($6,479), Greater Bakersfield Vision 2020 ($5,732), Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra ($5,000) and BARC ($5,000).

Grants also went to Boy Scouts of America ($4,300), Friends of Mercy Foundation ($4,123), Golden Empire Gleaners ($1,879), Buena Vista Museum of Natural History ($1,500) and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society ($1,362).
