Julie Johnson from the city's animal shelter brought a poodle that Scott Cox named Sebastian to "First Look with Scott Cox." Sebastian is available for adoption.

Sebastian is a mellow, white miniature poodle who needs someone to give him attention and he's up for adoption.

Friday on "First Look with Scott Cox," Julie Johnson, who runs the city's shelter on Mount Vernon Avenue and is also Bakersfield SPCA director, said Sebastian arrived at the city shelter in February.

"We didn't know what breed he was," Johnson said. "He was covered in hair, weighing 10 pounds but after being groomed, his real weight is five pounds."

Although Sebastian was a little shaky when he got out of the dog cage to appear on the simulcast, he had a look in his eyes that could melt your heart.

Simulcast host Scott Cox said he could tell Sebastian had been through a lot before he got to the shelter.

"Put yourself in Sebastian's little paws," Cox said. "He's been through a lot but now he's on the other side and he needs someone to love him."

You can visit Sebastian and other pets at the City of Bakersfield Animal Care Center at 201 Mt. Vernon Ave. or call 832-7387.

Johnson also reminded pet owners about the 10th Annual Puttin' on the dog event. You can get your pets vaccinated and microchipped for $20.

The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bakersfield SPCA, 3000 Gibson St. Food will be catered by Smokey Lane BBQ and other vendors.
