Kelsie Monroe was brilliant for Cal State Bakersfield, pitching 9-2/3 innings between two games on Sunday and allowing just two runs.
Neither performance was good enough for a win.
The Roadrunners struggled at the plate, getting one-hit by Loyola Marymount, then failing to push across a run against UC Riverside in a pair of 1-0 losses.
Monroe pitched all six innings for the Roadrunners against the Lions, striking out five while allowing a run on four hits and two walks. Loyola Marymount, though, pushed a run across in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.
Sydney Gouviea held the Roadrunners to just one run and two walks while striking out 10 for the Lions.
Monroe pitched 3-2/3 innings to start against the Highlanders, but was lifted after allowing the only run of the game.
CSUB picked up eight hits off UC Riverside in the second game, but failed to score.
NEWPORT BEACH -- Kristen Jensen scored four goals for CSUB against UC Davis, and Bridgette Souza scored twice against Pacific, but the Roadrunners dropped both matches at the UC Irvine Invitational.
CSUB fell to UC Davis in a close match 13-12 before falling to Pacific 13-3.
The Roadrunners had a final opportunity to tie up their match against UC Davis with a 6-5 advantage in the final minute, but could not capitalize.
Former BC football player and Garces graduate Greg Robinson has signed on to be San Jose State's defensive coordinator.
He was Texas' defensive coordinator, taking over midseason after the school fired Manny Diaz.
The 62-year-old was previously a defensive coach at Michigan as well as for the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets. He was also head coach at Syracuse.
He is a 1969 graduate of Garces and played for the Renegades in 1970 and 1971 before transferring to Pacific.
The Spartans were 6-6 in their first season in the Mountain West Conference, notably ending Fresno State's undefeated season in the final regular season game in a 62-52 shootout.

VENTURA -- Bakersfield College's Alicia Torres took first at the Western State Conference Relays in the shotput, throwing for a distance of 11.76 meters.
The BC women's relay team of Reshana Watson, Khayla Doxey, Natalie O'Dwyer and Jessica Campbell combined to win the 1,600-meter sprint medley with a time of 4:15.45.
Torres also finished third in the discus with a distance of 34.73 meters, and third in the hammer with a distance of 30.6 meters.
The BC women's 1,600-meter relay team finished second with a time of 4:07.21. BC also took second in the women's 3,200-meter relay with a time of 10:02.91.
For the men, Dion Louden placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.8 seconds, and the men finished second in the 1,600-meter sprint medley with a time of 3:42.99.
