Henry A. Barrios / The Californian

Farmworkers Feliciano Ramirez, left, and Carmen Colmenarez tie grape vines southeast of Bakersfield off of Fairfax Road to prepare for the growth season. Employment in farm work could take a big hit as California suffers through a drought.

Having the president come to the Central Valley didn't work. Debate about diverting water didn't work.

So in an effort to seek divine intervention for the state's drought, area clergy and the Kern Leadership Alliance PRAY are inviting the public to a community-wide prayer gathering on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Labeled the "Pray for Rain" event, the prayers will also seek restoration of the snowpack in the Sierras.

More than a dozen clergy are listed as being involved.

The 6 p.m. event will be held at Bakersfield High School's Harvey Auditorium, 1316 G St.
