The mother of Bakersfield's first baby of 2014 will have to finish a stint in jail before she can reunite with her child.
Robin Faye Howard, 31, pleaded no contest Thursday to drug possession for sales and was sentenced to a year in jail. She'll serve far less time than that due to time already served and overcrowding.
Prosecutors had charged Howard with possession of methamphetamine, possession of meth for sales and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her attorney, Mark Anthony Raimondo, has said the case against her originated over the summer, but the warrant was only issued in December.
Howard was arrested Jan. 2 after photographs and video footage of her appeared in the media when it was reported she'd given birth to the first baby of the new year. Addison was born at 1:37 a.m. Jan. 1 at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.
Howard has several other convictions for drug-related crimes and burglaries, according to court records.
