Brooke Roberts, Centennial volleyball coach

This is the 11th and final time Centennial's Brooke Roberts will be The Californian's Volleyball Coach of the Year.

Roberts led the Golden Hawks to a 24-11 season, an outright Southwest Yosemite League championship and top seed in the Central Section Div. I playoffs in her final season.

Centennial didn't win the section title. That hope ended with a five-set loss to Clovis in the semifinals.

In December, Roberts retired as a teacher. She announced a year ago this would be her final volleyball season as a coach. She considered giving up coaching in 2012.

"I'm so happy I decided to do this and finish it out," she said. "It was such a rewarding experience to do it with these girls.

"Our team bought into an intense work ethic and selfless attitude. They epitomized what you would want every year from a volleyball team. Every day was a joy with them."

According to Central Section historian Bob Barnett, Roberts finishes with a section-record 884 wins, 24 league titles, 14 section titles, eight section runner-up finishes and two state titles. The 884 wins is believed to be a state record, according to Cal-Hi Sports. She finished 884-253.
