2013 Girls Tennis All-Area Team

Singles Player of the Year

This rookie rode a strong regular season to a Southeast Yosemite League championship and a No. 2 seed in the section tourney, where she took home the championship with a three-set victory over No. 1 Arianna Tilbury of Stockdale.

Doubles Team of the Year

Emily Horrigan and Cara Kemp, Stockdale, sophomore and senior

Kemp transferred from Palos Verdes during the summer and immediately hit it off with Horrigan. This duo was 23-0 as a team, and that included a straight-set romp through the section doubles draw that culminated with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over a San Joaquin Memorial team in the championship match.

First team

Isabella Busacca, Liberty, senior

Her fourth year as the Patriots' No. 1 player ended with a 17-7 record, a runner-up finish in Southwest Yosemite League singles and a third career berth into the section singles tournament.

Isabel Donaldson, Bakersfield, senior

Playing No. 1 for the Drillers, Donaldson went 23-9 in singles and 10-1 in doubles. She breezed through the area tournament and reached the round of 16 in the section singles tournament.

Madison Swaney, Frontier, freshman

Thrown into the fire as a freshman playing No. 1, Swaney went a respectable 14-8 and received a wild-card entry into the section singles tournament, where she was the No. 9 seed.

Arianna Tilbury, Stockdale, sophomore

The area's top player for much of the season, Tilbury finished the year 29-4, with only one loss within the section -- the singles championship against Garces' Drulias, 6-4 in the third set. Tilbury did come home with some hardware, leading the Mustangs to the seventh Division I team section title in school history.

Riley Tucker, Garces, junior

A year after winning the section doubles crown with since-graduate Crimson Hochhalter, Tucker backed it up with an SEYL doubles title alongside Bridget Boylan. Tucker also played No. 2 for the Rams, who went unbeaten in the SEYL.

Ali Vaughan, Bakersfield, junior

Second-time All-Area pick formed a formidable 1-2 punch with Donaldson, going 23-9 in singles and 14-3 in doubles for the Drillers. She received a wild-card entry into the section singles draw as the No. 10 seed.
