A Bakersfield man driving on Highway 99 was shot by occupants of a second car Sunday morning, but was able to exit and call for help from a gas station.

Bakersfield Police said Christopher West, 20, was traveling south on Highway 99 at the Highway 58 interchange when occupants of a 1990s green Ford Mustang with a tan or brown top fired numerous shots.

West's vehicle was struck several times, and West was wounded in a hand. Police said he drove to an Arco/ampm to seek help.

He was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
