There were themed floats, marching bands, classic cars, horse-drawn carriages, trick ropers, fire engines and a grand marshal named Santa Claus.

The 2013 Dignity Health Bakersfield Christmas parade was the city's 31st rendition of the seasonal celebration. And the parade Thursday night through downtown Bakersfield delighted and enthralled kids of all ages.

The two-hour-long spectacle also was a chilly one, with temperatures hovering in the low 40s and both spectators in the bleachers and participants on floats bundled in scarves and coats, and under blankets.
