Two men are in custody and one man who police had believed to be a suspect has been released in connection with a robbery and officer-involved shooting Wednesday.

Eric Miles Jr., 23, and Brandon Burns, 29, were both arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy, and Miles is also being held on suspicion of evading and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.

A third man, Charles Robertson, was also arrested Wednesday but later released after it was determined he was not involved in the robbery, police said. The two other suspects remain at large.

Police responded at 3:22 p.m. to a call of a robbery in the Chase Bank parking lot at The Marketplace. The suspects stole a large duffle bag and cash from the victim, who was uninjured.

At 3:27 p.m., a police officer located the suspects' dark blue Nissan Maxima traveling west on Ashe Road at White Lane, police said. The car pulled into the parking lot of a Meineke Car Care in the 6500 block of White Lane and three of the suspects jumped out of the car and ran east across Ashe.

The officer pulled into the parking lot and got out of his vehicle. Police said the driver, later identified as Miles, made a rapid U-turn and drove directly at the officer, who fired several rounds at the vehicle. One witness described Miles as trying to run over the officer.

Miles managed to leave the parking lot and drove north on Ashe Road, accelerating to more than 100 mph before losing control and skidding to a stop in the middle of the roadway south of Stockdale Highway. Miles had suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Kern Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Burns was arrested at 3:57 p.m. in the 6300 block of District Boulevard, police said. He'd suffered injuries to his hands and chest consistent with jumping fences, and was taken to KMC for minor injuries.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Detective Jeff Watts at 326-3543 or the BPD at 327-7111.
