FRESNO -- Issiah Grayson had 20 second-half points in a low-scoring affair and willed Cal State Bakersfield to a 61-50 victory over Northern Arizona on Friday night in the Fresno State Classic.

"In the second half our guys did a very good job of defending on the ball and playing with more purpose on defense,"said CSUB coach Rod Barnes in a news release. "Hopefully we got the bad game out of the way and we'll come out tomorrow night and play much better."

Bakersfield (5-1) led only 41-38 before Grayson scored 13 points in the last 5:20 to spark a 20-12 run. Grayson also scored 7 unanswered points over a 1:11 stretch to give Bakersfield its first lead of the second half 39-36 with 9:48 left.

"It was the same sort of half we had against Idaho State," said Barnes in a news release. "Turning the ball over, not taking good shots not being smart with our play ... I thought in the second half we played with a lot more energy, a lot more purpose in our game and I thought Issiah, our senior, stepped up big for us tonight."

Both teams scored only three total points over the next 4 minutes before Grayson took over again the closing minutes.

Grayson finished with 21 while Erik Kinney and Javonte Maynor scored 11 apiece.

Northern Arizona (2-4) had 20 offensive rebounds and edged Cal State Bakersfield 43-29 on the glass. But the Lumberjacks turned the ball over 23 times, shot 32.7 percent and missed all 11 3-point attempts. Aaseem Dixon led Northern Arizona with 15 points and Max Jacobsen added 13.
