Organizers of the Kern County Nut Festival have begun accepting vendor applications for the second annual event, set for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 7 at the Kern County Museum.
New to next year's plan is a Nut Mercantile area, where vendors can sell packaged nut products in a general store-type area. Packaged foods may also be sold outside the new area.
Application materials may be found online by clicking on the "Participation" section at kcnutfest.com. Completed applications are due by April 1.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. has signed a 20-year contract to buy 15 megawatts-ac of power expected to be generated by an 80-acre solar farm proposed in Kern County.
PG&E signed the contract with the project's development partners, Folsom-based 8minutenergy Renewables LLC and Berlin's Saferay Inc.
The photovoltaic project, called Woodmere Solar Farm, is scheduled to begin construction in 2014 and become operational by December 2015. It is expected to produce enough power to serve 6,750 households.

The newest location, at the East Hills Walmart Supercenter, 2601 Fashion Place, specializes in brow-shaping, facial hair removal and eyelash extensions.
Ali opened his first salon franchise at the Gosford Walmart Supercenter on Gosford Road a couple of years ago.
