Cal State Bakersfield's volleyball team is two wins away from a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Roadrunners (20-11) must win the Western Athletic Conference Tournament that started Monday and concludes Wednesday at Grand Canyon Univerisity in Phoenix to earn an NCAA berth.

CSUB, the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tournament, will No. 6 seed Seattle (13-19) in the semifinals at 4 p.m today. Seattle downed No. 3 seed Utah Valley 25-21, 222-5, 23-25, 25-16, 15-13 on Monday.

Top-seeded New Mexico State (20-10) will play in the other semifinal at 6:30 p.m. today against either No. 4 Idaho (18-10) or No. 5 Mo.-Kansas City (15-13).

New Mexico State won the regular-season WAC title with a 14-2 conference record. CSUB was second at 12-4 with Idaho and Utah Valley each 11-5. Seattle and Kansas City were each 9-7.

CSUB swept Seattle and Utah Valley in regular-season play. New Mexico State swept the Roadrunners in Las Cruces, N.M., on Sept. 30 but the Roadrunners beat the Aggies in five games in Bakersfield on Oct. 17.

Setter Fernanda Goncalves has a WAC-leading 1,188 assists and libero Mariah Alvidrez leads the team with 577 digs.

Araujo and Goncalves were named Sunday to the All-WAC first team and O'Hagan was named to the All-WAC second team.

Dodgers add Martin to roster

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have added left-handed pitcher Jarret Martin to its 40-man roster.

Martin, 24, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound graduate of Centennial High School and former pitcher at Bakersfield College, was 6-7 with a 4.30 earned run average in 40 games last summer while splitting time with Rancho Cucamonga of the High Class A California League and Chattanooga (Tenn.) of the Southern League. He had 106 strikeouts in 96-1/3 innings.

By being on a major league team's 40-man roster, a player is protected from being chosen by another team in the annual Rule 5 Draft held each December.
