A 15-year-old boy shot in the back of the head while driving in Lamont Thursday morning was taken to a hospital with moderate to major injuries.

The teen was driving on Buena Vista Boulevard near Weedpatch Highway at about 3:49 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up behind him. Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt said the driver heard one round fired and was hit in the head.

The teen drove a short distance and crashed his vehicle into a telephone pole, Pruitt said, before he got out of the car and walked to a friend's house nearby. The friend called 911 and the teen was taken to Kern Medical Center.

Pruitt said there was no description of the suspect or the car. The teen has not been able to provide any information because of his condition.
