One man was killed and another arrested on suspicion of drunk driving following a hit-and-run collision on Weedpatch Highway just north of Wharton Avenue at 11 p.m. Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said Virgillo Juarez, 24, of Bakersfield was extremely intoxicated while driving north on Weedpatch Highway.

Meanwhile, 44-year-old Elias Martin Reyes-Campos, of Lamont, was on foot trying to cross Weedpatch north of Wharton.

Juarez hit Reyes-Campos and then fled, according to the CHP. He was found a short time later at a house in east Bakersfield and arrested.

Reyes-Campos died at the scene.
