The Condors acquired defenseman George Hughes from the Orlando Solar Bears on Wednesday in exchange for future considerations.

In other roster moves, the Condors signed defenseman Daniel Sobotka and center Chase Schaber to contracts while releasing forward Preston Shupe and defenseman Art Bidlevskii.

Also, defenseman Kyle Haines was placed on the 21-day injured reserve. Center Joel Broda remains on loan to Oklahoma City (he had an assist on Tuesday night) and will remain there at least through the weekend.

Hughes played 11 games with San Antonio in the AHL last season after finishing play at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. He led all NCAA defensemen in points (37) and assists (32) last season and led the team in assists (20) and points (24) the previous season.

The Condors open ECHL play on Friday night at Rabobank Arena against Colorado.

JC volleyball

TAFT -- Outside hitter Tiffany Mapusaga had 19 kills and 11 digs to lead Taft College to a 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-16 victory over College of the Sequoias.

Chelsea Wong had 10 kills and 14 digs for the Cougars (12-4, 5-1 Central Valley Conference). Kaylynn Palama led COS (4-10, 3-3), with 15 digs and 41 assists.

Taft is tied for second in the CVC with Porterville College heading into a Friday showdown at first-place Fresno City.

CSUB soccer

Former Cal State Bakersfield standout Gyasi Zardes, who is in his rookie season with the Major League Soccer champion L.A. Galaxy, will appear from 6-9 p.m. today at Lengthwise Brewery (6720 Schirra Ct.) for a kickoff benefitting CSUB's men's soccer program.

The Roadrunners will open the home portion of their WAC schedule this week, hosting San Jose State at 7 p.m. Friday and Seattle at 1 p.m. Sunday.
