Currently the Baker Branch of the Kern County Library is only open on Mondays but there are plans for the Baker Branch Library to be open on Wednesday as well.

Kern County Library Director Sherry Gomez isn't expecting a lot of debate over the big item she's bringing to the Kern County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

Supervisors are expected to grant routine approval to the new hours -- including an additional day of operation -- at 25 Kern County branch libraries.

The new hours include some shifting of days at six of the libraries.

Gomez said library staffers created the best schedules they could.

"We did some very quick, informal polls of our patrons and over the years we've had patrons ask, 'Could you be open another day?' and 'This would be a great day,'" Gomez said.
