Business seemed back to normal Tuesday morning at this 7-Eleven at 3601 Stockdale Highway at Real Road, after a shooting took place late Monday evening outside the store.

Bakersfield police say a documented gang member who had just robbed a 7-Eleven fired at police officers responding to an unrelated call.

One officer returned fire, and suspect Daniel Garcia was arrested after a short chase. No one was injured in the Monday night shooting.

Police said the 32-year-old Garcia and Liodam Gonzalez, 21, entered the 7-Eleven at South Real Road and Stockdale Highway at 11:19 p.m. and Garcia started stealing beer when confronted by a store clerk. Garcia pulled a gun and pointed it at the clerk’s head.

Gonzalez ran out of the store, and Garcia followed him with the stolen beer, police said. At that point, Officers Andrew Ferguson and Brady Barber drove up for an unrelated call and Garcia shot at them.

Ferguson returned fire, and Garcia ran. Police said the handgun used by Garcia was recovered.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of offenses including attempted murder of a police officer and being a felon in possession of a gun. Gonzalez, also a documented gang member, was arrested on suspicion of participating in a criminal street gang and dissuading a witness.

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask that anyone with information call 327-7111.
