Stockdale senior Blake Haney authored one of the most impressive high school cross country performances ever Saturday night in Costa Mesa.
Haney won the boys sweepstakes race at Woodbridge Invitational/California Cross Country Classic with a 3-mile time of 13:55. He edged Estevan De La Rosa of Arcadia by one second.
Haney, a double state distance champion at last spring's CIF State Track and Field Championships, now owns the fastest 3-mile time in the nation this year among high schoolers by nearly 30 seconds; the previous best was 14:24 by Patrick Perrier of O'Fallon, Ill.
There were six runners at 14:10 or faster in this race, though there was an 11-second gap between De La Rosa and the third-place runner, Garrett Corcoran of Villa Park.
