The California Housing Finance Agency last week unveiled a new, fixed-rate mortgage program offering 30-year loans covering up to 3.5 percent of the first loan amount.
Loans made under the program, known as CalPLUS, don't have to be repaid until the home is paid in full, sold or refinanced. To qualify, participants must be low- or moderate-income, first-time buyers; they must also complete a financial education program.
The offer can be combined with programs such as the California Homebuyer's Downpayment Assistance Program, which pays as much as 3 percent of a home's price.
