David Chavez, Sr., 53, of Bakersfield, was sentenced to 87 months in prison Monday after pleading guilty last year to conspiring to distribute marijuana.
According to court records, the business Nature's Medicinal was owned by David Chavez, Jr., who referred to himself as the CEO of the company, and David Chavez, Sr., who was referred to by corporate records as the treasurer. According to the indictment, between September 2004 and February 2006 the business earned $16 million from selling marijuana.
Law enforcement executed search arrants on the business and personal residences of the owners in May and July of 2007. More than 200 pounds of marijuana and marijuana-laced food products, $57,000 in cash and two guns were found at the business.
David Chavez, Jr. was sentenced to four years in prison earlier this year, and six other defendants have also been previously sentenced in connection with this case.
