Morganne Hill

Liberty * sophomore * hurdles

The best hurdler in the Central Section by a wide margin, Hill won double titles in the SWYL, the area and the section, and she helped the Patriots' 1,600-meter relay qualify for state, too. At state, she finished fifth in the 300 hurdles (42.43) and sixth in the 100 hurdles (14.14).


Brena Andrews

Independence * senior * sprints

A two-time Californian Athlete of the Year, Andrews battled injuries as a senior but still finished second in the section 100 and won the 200-meter title for the second straight year. The Nebraska signee was 10th at state in both individual sprints and with the Falcons' 400 relay.

Rae Blansett

Liberty * junior * throws

Kern County's top thrower won area titles in the shot put and discus, then finished third in the section in the discus (144-1) and reached the state final, where she finished eighth.

Jessica Campbell

Frontier * senior * distance

Popped off a personal-record 5:09.67 to finish sixth in the 1,600 at the section finals, the only local runner with the lead group. Campbell also won the SWYL title in the 3,200 and the area title in the 1,600.

Chloe Carlson

Centennial * senior * sprints/middle distance

The versatile runner and Cal Poly signee led the Golden Hawks to the SWYL team title, won the area title in the 200 and 400 and finished fourth in the 400 (56.50) and sixth in the 200 (25.07) in the section finals.

Asia Chesley

Stockdale * junior * high jump

She equaled a personal best with a 5-8 high jump to win the area title, then did it again three weeks later to finish fourth in the state -- her second top-four finish in three trips to state.

Ariana Mariscal

North * senior * middle distance

Was undefeated locally in the 800, including an easy two-second victory in the area finals. She finished sixth in the section (2:17.05) despite running in the slower heat and will run for Humboldt State.

Kiare Tanner

Stockdale * senior * horizontal jumps

Returning state medalist led the section in the triple jump for much of the year before taking second at the Masters meet (38-7). She dominated the event locally and finished 16th at state.

Bryn Williamson

Centennial * senior * pole vault/sprints

The area's best pole vaulter cleared 11-6, fourth-best in the section, finished sixth at the section meet. The Cal State Fullerton signee also ran on the Golden Hawks' 400 relay team that finished second in the area.
