This is one of many boxes of illegal fireworks confiscated by the Kern County Fire Department and other law enforcement agencies at a house in Bakersfield Thursday afternoon.

The Bakersfield Fire Department has established a temporary hotline for reporting the storage or usage of illegal fireworks during July 3 and 4.

The hotline will be staffed from 7 p.m. to midnight each day, according to a fire department news release. The hotline is not an emergency number for incidents that require an immediate response by firefighters.

All emergency calls must be made through the 911 system.

To be legal in California, all fireworks must have the State of California Fire Marshal's seal and the "Safe and Sane" slogan. All others, including "Safe and Sane" fireworks that have been modified, are illegal and will result in citations.
