Bakersfield Christian's boys tennis team is favored to win its ninth consecutive Central Section championship after receiving the No. 1 seed in Division III when brackets were determined Monday in Porterville.
The Eagles are atop a four-team, all-Kern County bracket. Ridgeview is No. 2, followed by North and Delano. Because there are only four teams, the semifinals will run today with the section final Thursday in Division III.
In Division I, Southwest Yosemite League champion Stockdale drew the No. 4 seed, behind Clovis West, Fresno-Bullard and Clovis-Buchanan. The Mustangs have a bye in today's first round, then open in Thursday's quarterfinals against No. 5 Clovis East.
Liberty is No. 6 and hosts Clovis North today, with the winner traveling to Buchanan on Thursday. No. 7 Garces plays No. 10 Visalia-El Diamante at home today, and No. 8 Centennial gets No. 9 Clovis.
Tehachapi is No. 9 in Division II and will play at No. 8 Porterville today. The winner gets top seed Visalia-Redwood.
Taft and Wasco are seeded Nos. 2 and 3 in Division IV behind Visalia-Central Valley Christian. Wasco will play at Taft in a semifinal Thursday.
The individual draw for the South Area tournament, which is Friday and Saturday in Wasco, was held late Monday.
