HUMBLE, Texas -- Cal State Bakersfield's Thomas Judge broke his own conference record and defended his conference title with a win in the hammer throw Friday at the Great West Conference Championships.

The Garces graduate won the event on Day 1 of the championships with a throw of 190 feet, 9 inches. The mark bested his own conference record of 184-2, set last season.

On Saturday, CSUB sophomore Bryan Wilmert placed fourth in the shot put and freshman Jamara Scott placed sixth in the shot put in Day 2 of the championships.

Wilmert, a Bakersfield High graduate, recorded a toss of 44 feet, 11 inches for his second-top four finish of the meet. He placed second in the hammer throw Friday.

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State Bakersfield second baseman Adrianna Cardoza turned an improbable triple play as the Roadrunners were swept by No. 15 UCLA -- 14-0 in Game 1, 8-0 in Game 2 -- in the season finale.

In Game 2, with the Roadrunners trailing 3-0 and the bases loaded, Cardoza caught a line drive at second base. The sophomore then tagged second to double up the runner on second and fired to first to double up the second runner to complete the triple play.

CSUB finished the season with a 16-22 record. UCLA is 35-17.

Blaze falls to Nuts. 3-2

MODESTO -- Tyler Massey hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for Modesto and the Nuts held on for a 3-2 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze at John Thurman Field.

Massey's home run, off Blaze starter Carlos Contreras (1-3), gave Modesto a 3-0 lead.

Juan Perez scored Juan Silva on a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Juan Duran scored Marquez Smith on a double play in he seventh to pull Bakersfield within one.

Modesto's Scott Oberg struck out the side in order in the ninth inning.

Patel drops to tie for 13th

ATHENS, Ga. -- Bakersfield High graduate Bhavik Patel fired a three-over 74 to fall into a tie for 13th place at the Tour's Stadion Classic. Patel had three bogeys and no birdies on his round. He shot 68 and 69 on the first two days and is at 2-under 211 for the tournament.

Brendon Todd leads at 8-under.
