Caltrans has announced the temporary closure of the Sand Canyon Bridge/Interchange beginning April 29 as part of the Highway 58 Sand Canyon Bridge Replacement Project.
This project will replace the existing bridge and reconstruct the westbound on and off ramps. The project is expected to be complete in December 2013, and ramp and lane closures will be necessary throughout the duration of the project.
Westbound Highway 58 will be closed at Sand Canyon. All traffic will be detoured off the highway onto the existing off ramps and detoured immediately back onto the highway.
Traffic will not be allowed access from Highway 58 to Sand Canyon Road and local traffic from southbound and northbound Sand Canyon Road will not be allowed direct access to Highway 58.
Commuters are encouraged to use East Tehachapi Boulevard as an alternate route to access Highway 58.
This closure will be 24 hours per day for the next eight months throughout the duration of the project.
