Bakersfield Police Department personnel investigate this scene in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park where a body was found early Tuesday morning by a worker in the area of East California Avenue, behind this backstop.

Bakersfield police Tuesday morning said there were indications of foul play regarding a body found in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

The victim was identified by the coroner’s office as 34-year-old Stacey Ann Peebles.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs said dispatch was called at 7:23 a.m. by City Recreations and Parks workers reporting a person down in the park near the softball diamonds. Patrol units arrived to find the body of a woman.

Detectives and crime scene investigators were still at the park a couple of hours later.
