Sa Ron Green and Darryl Hargis were convicted Monday of attempted murder of a peace officer for the benefit of a criminal street gang.
Both face life sentences at their May 8 sentencing, according to a Kern County District Attorney's office news release.
On Sept. 20, 2009, the defendants traveled to the 7-11 at Wilson and New Stine roads in Bakersfield to commit an armed robbery, the news release said. A citizen called 911 when he saw the defendants begin preparing for the robbery.
Bakersfield police Officers Isaac Aleman and Aaron Stringer arrived in response to the call and confronted the defendants behind the store, the news release said. Green, 17 at the time, shot Aleman, seriously injuring him.
Hargis was 16 at the time, but the two were tried as adults because of the serious nature of the offense, according to the news release. Both were members of the East Side Crips.
