ARLINGTON, Texas -- Cal State Bakersfield's Dylan Christensen lined an RBI single in the eighth inning to break a tie and lift the Roadrunners to a 3-2 Western Athletic Conference baseball win Friday at Texas-Arlington.

The win, coupled with Texas State's 3-2 loss earlier Friday at Sacramento State, pulled CSUB (20-10, 5-2 WAC) into a three-way tie for first place in the conference with Texas State and Arlington (15-13, 5-2).

It was 2-2 when Cael Brockmeyer drew a leadoff walk in the eighth against Mavericks' pitcher Daniel Milliman (1-2). Mylz Jones, who earlier had two singles to extend his CSUB record hitting streak to 21 games, sacrificed Brockmeyer to second. Christensen followed with his RBI single.

Jeff McKenzie got the win to improve his record to 7-1. The senior left-hander had allowed only one earned run in his last 392/3 innings before Arlington's No. 9 hitter Greg McCall hit a game-tying, two-run homer with one out in the fifth, his second of the season.

Taylor Aikenhead pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his second save.

The Roadrunners scored twice in the first inning.

Oscar Sanay drew a leadoff walk and Tyler Shryock doubled. Brockmeyer made it 1-0 with a sacrifice fly and Jones' RBI single to right made it 2-0.

CSUB had a chance to add some runs in the third when Sanay led off with a single and Shryock walked.

Jones hit a one-out single, but right fielder Justin Copeland threw Sanay out at the plate. Christensen was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Jordie Hein struck out to end the inning.

CSUB also got its first two runners on base in the fourth when Kevin Younger singled and Frank Martinez walked. But Younger was picked off second and two groundouts ended the inning.

The Mavericks had a scoring chance in the fourth when a hit batter and single put two on with none out. But a double play and flyout ended the inning.

Arlington scored in the fifth on Travis Sibley’s infield hit to third base and McCall followed with his homer.

The series continues today with a noon game and concludes Sunday with an 11 a.m. game. CSUB plays host to Cal Poly Tuesday at 6 p.m.
