The Kern County Department of Human Services' 2013 JobFest Series kicks off with a job fair from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Shafter Veterans Hall, 309 California Ave.
All job fairs in the series run from 9 a.m. to noon at different locations. Job seekers are advised to come "dressed for success" and bring at least 20 copies of their resume or master application.
The second in the series is set for April 3 at the Taft Veterans Memorial Building, 218 Taylor St., in Taft. The Lamont JobFest is set for April 17 at the David Head Center, 10300 San Diego St., in Lamont. Ridgecrest's event is April 26 at SpringHill Suites Marriott, 113 E. Sydor Ave.
The series is to continue in Bakersfield May 14, and in Lake Isabella May 15. Locations of those fairs have not been announced.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Kern County to help prepare local youth to enter the job market.
The two organizations' Summer Jobs Program features eight-week "Career Launch" classes for more than 300 Kern County youth. The classes are to be based on national Boys & Girls Club programs focusing on career exploration, financial literacy and community stewardship.
Students who complete the program get to interview for one of 50 summer jobs at local businesses. PG&E has offered to cover their salaries and benefits. The program also helps pay for any necessary clothing and bus transportation. There is no cost to participating businesses.
Applications for the program are available at the Boys and Girls Club at 801 Niles St., in Bakersfield.
