There has been a confidential settlement in the lawsuit a California Lottery winner filed last year against her adult son alleging fraud and financial elder abuse.
In a lawsuit filed April 23 of last year, Etta May Urquhart claimed her son, Ronnie Lee Orender, swindled her of winnings that were rightfully hers and her husband's.
The ticket Urquhart purchased in May 2011 for a $51 million jackpot was the largest lottery win ever in Kern County, according to the California Lottery. The family opted for a lump sum cash payment of $32.3 million before taxes.
Urquhart bought the ticket at Stuarts Oak Street Mobil, but Orender said at a press conference in Fresno following the win that he'd been giving his mother money to buy lottery tickets for years. He showed up at Mobil with his parents to turn in the winning ticket in 2011.
Terms of the settlement agreement were not disclosed. Attorneys for both sides did not return telephone calls.
