The Kern County Sheriff's Office Incident Review Board Thursday determined that three rangers were within Kern County Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures in connection with shooting at a motorist who tried to run one of them down.

Park Rangers Christopher Gonzales, Jessey Esposito and Christopher Boston were investigating a report of an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in the 13000 block of Round Mountain Road 7:46 p.m. March 9, deputies reported. The rangers tried contacting the occupants of a stolen vehicle, but the driver, after being ordered to get out of the vehicle, accelerated and tried to run over one of the rangers.

All three rangers fired at the vehicle, and the driver crash into a tree, deputies said. The driver and passenger were both struck by bullets and received non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, William Volschow, 27, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Passenger Martha Martin, 62, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle.
