The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District will hold a town meeting to discuss the traits, skills, abilities and experience desired in a new superintendent at 6 p.m. March 15 in the multipurpose room at Tevis Junior High School, 3901 Pin Oak Park Blvd.

Current Superintendent Kip Hearron is retiring at the end of the school year.

The PBVUSD school board has selected Dave Long & Associates Executive Search Services to help find a successor. The consultants are hosting the meeting.

Anyone unable to attend the forum may submit questionnaires available at district schools and the PBVUSD district office, 4200 Ashe Road, or email the consultants at or . Deadline to submit comments is March 15.

The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District and The Parent Institute will present a free workshop on "How to Make the Transition from third to fourth grade" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 19 at Loudon Elementary School multipurpose room, 4000 Loudon St.

Child care is available for children ages 3-12. Space is limited.

The Kern County Superintendent of Schools office has announced winners of the 30th annual Kern County History Day, held March 2 at the Larry E. Reider Educational Center.

History Day encourages students to explore a historical subject related to a yearly theme. This year's theme was "Turning Points in History."

Winners in each of six categories are eligible to participate in the History Day state finals April 26 and 27 in Sacramento. State winners can advance to the National History Day competition to be held in June in Maryland.
