The Kern County chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will hold its third-annual Bakersfield Military Ball from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at the DoubleTree Hotel in Bakersfield.

The military dress uniform or black tie event offers an opportunity to salute those who are serving, thank those who have served and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, said David Jackson, commander of the local chapter.

The ball will include guest speakers, a military ceremony, presentations, dinner and dancing.

Cost is $65 per person. All donations and sponsorships are tax-deductible.

Chartered by Congress in 1958, the mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support legislative initiatives and provide service to all veterans and their families.
