A two-story house in Lebec was destroyed by fire Friday afternoon, according to the Kern County Fire Department.

It happened at 1:03 p.m. in the 7600 block of Digier Road. Firefighters arrived to find the house with smoke and flames showing, a fire department news release said. The occupants and pets were safe and outside when crews arrived, the department reported.

Access was difficult because of snow and the need for a four-wheel drive. Downed power lines also were an issue.

Firefighters used an exterior attack because the fire was spreading fast, and called for additional help. The Los Angeles County Fire Department assisted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the news release said.
