The Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault is seeing increased demand for its services, and as Bakersfield Police said this week that rape reports rose 43.6 percent between 2011 and 2012, they're reminding the public of its services.

The Alliance is fielding more requests for counseling, case management and hospital accompaniment for rape and assault. The Alliance received 144 requests for hospital accompaniment in 2011, and that increased to 178 in 2012.

But the Alliance hasn't seen an increase in hotline calls.

"We all know that rape is one of the most underreported crimes," Taniel Green-Wood, clinical services manager at the Alliance's Outreach Center, said in a news release. "This disparity between the recent BPD crime report for rape, and the number of calls received in the last 12 months to our hotline, shows that many who experience assault or rape may be afraid or unsure where to go for help."

The Alliance said its services include:

* A 24-hour Crisis Hotline for victims of rape or assault at 327-1091, or toll free 1-800-273-7713. Calls and requests for service are free and confidential.

* Office walk-in crisis intervention Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Domestic Abuse Response Team / Sexual Assault Response Team, case management / referral assistance, domestic violence emergency shelter / transitional services, individual counseling, domestic violence and sexual assault counseling and awareness groups, domestic violence and sexual assault education and prevention and hospital, court accompaniment and advocacy.
