The second defendant accused in connection with placing duct tape over the mouths of two 14-month-old children accepted a plea deal Monday and was sentenced to nine days in jail.
Soradia Carabantes pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor counts of willful cruelty to a child, according to court records.
Jose Picazo, the other defendant in the case, pleaded no contest to the same charges Friday and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, court records show. Bakersfield police have said Picazo, 27, was the one who actually put the duct tape over the mouths of the children and also taped their hands behind their backs.
Police said they were contacted by Child Protective Services Dec. 27 regarding possible child abuse at the home of Carabantes and Picazo in the 1200 block of Monterey Street. The two were arrested and all children in the home were taken into protective custody.
