MARE Riding Center is looking for hearty volunteers ages 14 to active retirees to help in horseback riding lessons, cleaning stalls, general maintenance, gardening upkeep and occasional office work. Mayor's Freeway Cleanup: Volunteers are needed to assist with de-littering the off/on-ramps of the freeway. Vests, helmets and trash bags are provided. Volunteers will meet at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 26 (this Saturday) at the Park & Ride lot on Stockdale Highway, west of Oak Street. Boys & Girls Club of Kern County is looking for mentors through the end of the school year, May 2013. Volunteers must commit to two hours per week, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on a regular day and time to give children a sense of consistency.
