A correctional officer charged with spousal abuse pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Wednesday afternoon.
Alfred Hernandez, 43, a correctional officer at Corcoran State Prison, is next scheduled to be in court Feb. 4 for a pre-preliminary hearing, according to court records.
Hernandez was arrested early Monday in the 12000 block of Cherry Valley Avenue after officers responded to reports of screaming coming from the residence, Bakersfield police said. The girlfriend told police she and Hernandez had an argument and he prevented her from leaving the residence.
Officers said the girlfriend said Hernandez dragged her through the house and pinned her on the ground before choking her and threatening to kill her. The girlfriend suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
In addition to spousal abuse, Hernandez is charged with false imprisonment and threatening with the intent to terrorize.
